He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. – 2 Corinthians 1:4
Paul writes a third letter to the church in Corinth, despite its naming as 2 Corinthians. In this letter, he tells the congregation that when God comforts him and the apostles, He does so to enable the apostles to comfort them and others. The pain of trials they endure help them to comfort others who endure the same experience later on in life.
What trial, test, or tribulation are you enduring at the moment? Does it seem like God may or may not be there? Well, first off, let me assure You that our God is the faithful God! He never leaves or abandons His children! Thus, when you are hurting or going through something in life requiring His comfort, make note of it and file it away. There will come a day and time when someone else will experience the same or a similar incident. They will be in need of comforting. Sure, God will comfort them, but He may decide to send you to comfort them with His love and mercy. Humans are creatures of patterns. When we learn something, others tend to want to learn it also. When we hurt and are comforted, others will see it and want to be comforted, too. What better way to spread the love of God than to share with others His comfort we received when we endured the moment! So, the next time you see someone hurting, remember how God comforted you and share that love and grace with the hurting. You will be doing the will of God. If you need encouragement to get you started, revisit the parable of the Good Samaritan and what it means to comfort those in need.
Father, I pray that You would give me the heart of compassion You have for those hurting and in need of comfort. You send us Your Holy Spirit, who is the greatest Comforter, as Jesus said. He ultimately works in the lives of others and us to bring Your comfort in times of distress, but I also know that You choose to use humans to do Your will here on this earth. You give us a Tutor, who instructs us in love and caring and comforting. For it is not by force or might but through Him that everything is done! Help me to reach out to those hurting people around me. Show me how to care and comfort those in need based on the comfort and care You’ve given me through Jesus and Your Spirit. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
