Scripture:
If you mistreat my daughters or if you take any wives besides my daughters, even though no one is with us, remember that God is a witness between you and me. – Genesis 31:50
Observation:
God told Jacob to head back to his people with all he had. When Jacob snuck away from Laban, Laban found out about it and hotly pursued after “his family” to bring them back to his home. Laban, however, had been told by God not to say or do anything bad to Jacob. Thus, Laban could merely confront his son-in-law and return home. Prior to his departure, Laban made an agreement with Jacob not to cross one another’s path and for Jacob to care for his daughters and grandchildren. If he didn’t, God would see it and be a witness against him.
Application:
What have you done wrong when you though no one was around to see it? Much as Laban said to Jacob, God says to us, “God is a witness.” God sees all and hears all and knows all. He knows the good and bad things you’ll think, say, and do long before they even happen. God sits in heaven “outside” of time and looks upon the past, present, and future of humanity as though it were one big painted canvas with all the events of our past, present, and future lives occurring simultaneously.
You may hide somethings from other people in your life, but God witnesses it all. You can hide nothing from Him. If you have sinned and tried to cover it up, know this. God will forgive you of your sin(s) IF you confess it to Him. He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from ALL unrighteousness. If your struggling with hidden sin(s), turn to God and confess it and allow Him to lift that heavy burden off of you. Jesus died for all sins you’d ever commit. Thank Him for taking your place on that cross. Feel the freedom in the Messiah. He’s waiting for you to do so.
Prayer:
Father, oh how I used to struggle with the sins of my past and the heavy burden of trying to hide them, so that others would not know. I confessed those sins to you and turned the matter over into Your hands. Those sins have been forgotten by You for eternity. I am pardoned from them forever. I never again want to live in that prison of self-torture caused by hiding a wrong in my heart and never bringing it to the light of Jesus. Thank You for freeing me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
