Revelation 1:18 “I am the living one. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave.”
John the apostle is on the island of Patmos serving a life-imprisonment sentence for his faith in Christ imposed upon him by the Roman government. While on the island, God gives him a vision of the future particularly of the end of days. Also in the vision, John receives seven messages to deliver to the seven churches of Asia. Jesus is the one who gives him the messages. As John encounters Jesus in his glorified state, he drops dead-like before the Messiah, who restores John and tells him that He is the one who is alive forever more.’
The one thing that I can say today is, “Oh happy day!” Why can I say this? Jesus is the One who was dead but is now living and will live forever more! Furthermore, He is the One who holds the keys of death and the grave.
When Jesus was crucified, He encountered hell and defeated the devil. He overcame sin by the power of the Holy Spirit and was raised from the dead. His innocence in death by being the substitutionary sacrifice for mankind’s sins prevented death from keeping a grip on him. Death had no legal hold on him because he was without sin. He took on our sins in order that we can be free from death, or eternal separation from God.
In the end of days at the end of John’s vision, we read, “Then death and the grave were thrown into the lake of fire” (Rev. 20:14a-NLT). Our LORD and Savior will one day toss these dastardly things into the lake of fire and burning sulfur forever never to hold its grip on God’s people again!
Sadly, many who refuse eternal life, the gift of God through Jesus the Messiah, will spend eternity with the devil, the demons, the false prophet, the beast, and death & grave for eternity in torment! Be a part of the side that enjoys eternity with God!
Father, thank you for providing a way for all people to spend eternity with you. Jesus died for the sins of the world although the whole world will not accept your love gift. I am most grateful that as for my house, and me, we serve the LORD. We will spend eternity with you and worshiping you. What a way to spend it and all because you overcame death and the grave! Thank you so much!! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
