Having all God wants you to have.

Scripture:
Deuteronomy 2:7 “The LORD your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has watched over your journey through this vast wilderness. These forty years the LORD your God has been with you, and you have not lacked anything.”

Observation:
Although their parents, grandparents, older siblings, and friends all died in the wilderness for their rebellion against God (those over age 20), the children that were prophesied to be victims of the Canaanites were about to “enter in” unlike the previous generation. This younger generation had been protected for and provided for by the LORD. They lacked nothing: food, water, or clothing. They lacked nothing!

Application:
This story is one of encouragement. Those who are obedient to the LORD and love Him with all their spirit, soul, and body and their neighbors as themselves receive the blessings of the LORD. The LORD is with them and will never leave or abandon His children. He will provide for them and lack nothing.

Jesus taught us and commanded us to seek first His Kingdom and Righteousness, and then God the Father would add to us the necessities of life: food, drink, and clothing. The condition for receiving the blessing of the LORD is seeking Him and doing so with all that is in you. Doing things on your own will never invite or bring the blessing of God upon you. It is in fact rebellion because you are living independent of Him.

Someone once put it this way, “Every step toward self-reliance is a step away from God.” Think about that. Every step you take to take care of and provide for yourself is one step away from God and one step of rebellion against God. Do you want to do things your way and miss out on God’s provision, or do things His way and remain under His umbrella of protection and provision?

Prayer:
Father, thank You for leading me and guiding me into all Truth by Your Spirit. I humble myself today and submit to Your leadership and omnipotence and omniscience. You know what I have need of before even asking You, so I seek first Your kingdom and righteousness by denying myself and picking up my cross and following You. There is no other way because You are the Way, the Truth, and the Life. I want to be blessed by the One who blesses and have You guide me my entire life, and to lack nothing because the Provider has taken care of me. Thank You! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
