Our righteousness gets us nowhere.

Deuteronomy 9:6 “Understand, then, that it is not because of your righteousness that the LORD your God is giving you this good land to possess, for you are a stiff-necked people.”

Just prior to this passage, Moses had reviewed the Law with God’s people. He told them that if they observed all of God’s laws and obeyed them before the LORD, that would be their righteousness. However, Moses also reminded them that their inheriting the Promised Land of the patriarchs was not because of anything they had done. They were a very obstinate people, who refused to fully obey the LORD even since their rescue from Egypt’s slavery camps. It was because God had chosen them from all the peoples on the earth that they were receiving their inheritance.

Moses hit the nail on the head when he spoke this message to the Hebrews. God does not give us the kingdom and eternity because of what we do. It is because He chose to give it to us out of His love for us! Nothing more; nothing less. This reason is why Paul wrote to the Ephesian church that salvation is a gift of God and not of works unless any man should boast about getting to heaven on his own.

We have to remember the Words of God in that He will not share His glory with another. For that reason alone God made sure that we COULD NOT work, earn, deserve, or buy our way into eternity with Him. Entry into eternity is only through Him, Jesus! If you are attempting any other way into God’s kingdom, Jesus said you are a thief and a robber, who has come to do nothing but to kill, to steal, and to destroy.

In spite of our past sins and those we will commit, God still loved us enough to pay the way for us to be a part of His family because He loved us. We CANNOT even love Him without Him loving us! He is the very reason we are able to do anything, period. If you keep striving to do things on your own, you will never reach the full blessing God has for you. Trust Him, obey Him, and worship Him alone!

Father, thank You for loving us even when we were undeserving of any of Your kindness, grace, mercy, love, compassion, and everything else. We will never be able to get into Your presence through any other way except Your Son, Jesus. His blood tore down the veil and allowed me entry into Your very presence!! Thank You!! I wouldn’t want it any other way. I bow before You, Sir! You are King! I love You! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
