Called and chosen!

Matthew 22:14 “For many are called, but few are chosen.”

We read the parable of the wedding feast. In this parable, Jesus taught that a king invited a group of people to his son’s wedding. They all made excuses as to why they were unable to attend. Then the king sent his servants to yet others who slew them. In fury and frustration, the king ordered other servants to go out into the outlying areas and compel anyone around to come to the wedding feast. Once they had rounded up numerous subjects of all sorts, the king noticed one man was not wearing clothes befitting of a wedding guest and had him tossed out into the darkness. Then Jesus replied that many are called but even fewer are chosen.

Are you among the chosen, the elect of God? God called Israel and chose them out of all the families and nations on the earth as His inheritance among men, but they refused Him and beat and killed the prophets. Thus, God sent out the apostles to gather men of all nations together to be a part of the family of God. For many are chosen; God calls all peoples everywhere to repent and turn from their wicked ways and be saved.

However, only a few are chosen to actually be a part of the family of God! But, why? God knows that most people are stiff-necked rebels, who would rather live in sin and follow their own vices and ways rather than humble themselves and serve Him and be His children. They would rather be a part of their father, Satan. Jesus didn’t die on the cross for nothing. God knew and knows who would and will and does serve Him and love Him above all else.

Friend, are you wearing clothes befitting a wedding guest because you have accepted God’s invitation to eternal life and the wedding supper of the Lamb? Or, are you dressed in filthy rags, your righteousness, that will get you tossed into outer darkness where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth (HELL)? God called you to turn from your sins and follow after Him, but are you still wearing your filthy rags and refusing to heed the call and be part of the chosen few? Is God’s Spirit knocking on the door of your heart and entreating you to join Him in everlasting life? Jesus died for your sins; will you accept His love gift today and turn from sin and become part of the family of God? Or, will you continue on your own only to end up in hell? The call has been given; God chooses you today, but will you choose Him?

Father, thank You from the bottom of my heart for choosing me to be one of Your own. As a sinner doomed to death eternal, I had no choice but to await death. However, You desired me and wanted me to spend eternity with You! Thus, I gladly accepted Your love gift of eternal life through Jesus the Messiah, my LORD! I bow in humility before Your Grace and applaud and praise You for deeming me worthy of repentance, compassion, mercy, grace, and Your love. Without such, I was doomed to eternity in torment with the demons! Now, I am a part of the family of God and will spend my eternity in love with You! Thank You! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
