And they prayed and said, You, Lord, Who know all hearts (their thoughts, passions, desires, appetites, purposes, and endeavors), indicate to us which one of these two You have chosen to take the place in this ministry and receive the position of an apostle, from which Judas fell away and went astray to go [where he belonged] to his own [proper] place. – Acts 1:24-25
Judas had killed himself from the grief and guilt he carried for betraying Jesus into the hands of the Sanhedrin. Jesus stated that it would have been better had the man who betrayed him never been born. The end of Judas proved this saying true. Now that he was dead, the apostles saw fit to replace him with another disciple of Jesus who had been there since the beginning. They nominated two men and then prayed to God to reveal to them which of the two would take Judas’ position as an apostle. The lot fell on Matthias.
Every minister that operates in a church or organization is not always whom they appear to be. Judas was an APOSTLE of Jesus with all the rights, privileges, and authority that came with that position. He ate, slept, traveled, and lived with the Messiah for three and a half years only to betray Him and turn Him over to the Sanhedrin and ultimately to the cross, just as had been prophesied of him centuries before. We don’t know with certainty if Judas performed great miracles under the watchful eye of Jesus. The one thing we do know is that he controlled the accounting department and often embezzled monies from the firm.
Jesus knew there was a false minister in His group because He personally chose him, but Jesus warned us to be vigilant and aware of false prophets in our congregations. Their basic is description is voracious wolves wearing sheep’s clothing. In other words, they walk right in the front door of the church dressed no differently from anyone else and may even speak “Christianese” like everyone else. They will sit in the pew next to you, raise their hands, praise God (facetiously), sing a hymn or two, put money in the plate or tithe even, take communion, be baptized, and may even give an “amen” now and then. They don’t have to become a member of the equipping ministries. They may very well be just pew warmers like many in the house. Their job is to blend in and be inconspicuous as possible in order to gain your confidence and then turn you away from God and disrupt the church.
It’s truly amazing that the most faithful attendees in a church are the sons of Satan. They never miss a gathering, service, or meeting of any kind. They are determined to destroy the people of God from within. They remind me of my collegial studies on microbiology. Many viruses enter into our bodies looking like a piece of DNA or RNA not too dissimilar from ours. Then the virus uses our genetics to permanently encode itself into our DNA and use our bodies against us in replicating it, so that it may grow in number and kill us from within if lethal or merely cause painful disease.
You see, some of the biggest false prophets are not the ones behind the microphone on the pulpit or on TV They sit right in your very midst, and you don’t even know it. The apostles had no idea that Judas was a traitor until the night Jesus was arrested. Incredibly during the Passover seder just hours before, Jesus told them that one of them would betray Him to the authorities. They all asked, “Who?” Jesus even told them who it was, but they thought that Judas got up and ran out to get more food or something for the occasion and not knowing that he was plotting Jesus’ death.
Be aware of who is in your congregation. Seek the Spirit of God and learn of His discernment for the camouflaged sons of Satan sitting in your midst. They are there only to destroy you if possible and nothing else.
Father, I come to You and ask in the name of Jesus for greater discernment of false prophets and teachers sitting in our church. They are there. Most people would never know it or acknowledge it. They are masters of disguise and deception. They win over the weak and prey on them through “peace” just as the anti-Messiah will do in the future to Israel. Give me the wisdom and strength to identify these weasels and uncover their plots. May they come to repentance if their names are written in the Book of Life. If not, may they be expelled from Your house. Amen.
