Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death. – Proverbs 11:4
As we read through the proverbs of Solomon, we gain a look into the life and mind of the wisest person, who has ever lived save Jesus. This once great king of ancient Israel shares with us the lessons of life he learned after he received the awesome gift of wisdom from God. We learn in this passage that money/wealth cannot and won’t save a person, but righteousness, that of God, will.
We live in the most prosperous times the earth has ever known. There are more millionaires and billionaires than ever before. However, there is more greed and destruction than ever before also. All we have to do is read or listen to the news to know that people and even nations fear complete ruin because of financial scares in the global economy. In fact, the world’s governments are so intertwined in business that the toppling of one major player on the world markets could cause a global financial meltdown.
There are so many people who have their hopes and lives tied up in the stock market that the panic and turmoil in the system creates great anxiety for them. The Bible says over and over again that those who hoard and store up worldly wealth in the last days will be consumed by it and lose everything. The Bible says that during the Great Tribulation there will be complete economic chaos and the seemingly God-like answer will come in the antichrist, who will “solve” the world’s problems.
Don’t be deceived. The Bible says also that JESUS IS THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE. NO ONE COMES TO GOD THE FATHER EXCEPT THROUGH HIM. There is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. God is the only One who can save mankind from eternal torment and separation from Him. Money can’t buy love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, humility, faithfulness or self-control. These things can only come from God the Father through the blood of Jesus by the power of God’s Holy Spirit.
Don’t put stock in the things of the world. Trust in the only One who can really save you – JESUS THE MESSIAH! He, alone, paid the price for your salvation. He died on the cross and shed His precious blood for you. Trust in Him and live. Trust in your wealth, die, and spend eternity in hell. You cannot serve both God and money. You will love one and hate the other. The choice is yours to make. Choose wisely. Choose correctly.
Father, I thank You that I don’t have massive wealth in my life by which I am tempted to save myself rather than rely on You to save me. Sure I live in the wealthiest county in the wealthiest country in the world, but I am not a wealthy person by American standards. To the world I am wealthy. I thank You for the provisions You’ve given our family. We share with others what You’ve given us as a token of our appreciation for Your work in our lives. May we always be able to share the blessing You’ve given to us with those in need. Jesus, only You can save us from sin, death, hell, and the grave and most importantly from eternal separation from the Father’s love. Thank you for dying on the cross and saving me. I trust in You and lay up treasure in heaven where moth, rust, and thief cannot touch it. Again, thank You for Your bestowed love, grace, mercy, and compassion. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
