Remembering God’s promise of grace.

Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth. – Genesis 9:16

God had destroyed the ancient world with the greatest deluge the world has ever known. Accounts of it have been recorded in every major civilization of the past although only one gives the proper account of the tale – the book of Genesis of the Bible. After God saved Noah and his family and the animals aboard the ark, God promised to Noah and all future inhabitants of earth that there would never be a global flood again that would annihilate all life on earth. He placed the rainbow in the sky to serve a reminder between Himself and all life of this promise.

Just over one year ago in December 2010, I wrote a book titled Warning: Don’t Ignore the Warning Signs of God’s Grace. The book is available at this link for FREE! Read it and enjoy and may it speak to you from the heart of God. However, in the book I address the rainbow and the promise of God to never flood the earth globally again. The rainbow serves as a reminder to God and man of God’s promise, but it also serves as a reminder of the necessity of the flood – the great evil that covered the earth prior to the flood. The earth was filled with such evil that God repented of making mankind and destroyed all but eight people.

Those eight people, Noah and his family, found grace in God’s eyes as being righteous people in the earth. They had a sin nature no different from any other person on the earth at that time or even now. They really deserved to die with the rest, but God spared them. He extended grace, which was not deserved, to them. They lived through the ordeal to perpetuate the human race.

Thus, within the beauty of God’s rainbow, we see hope, a hope of life and never seeing global annihilation of all life on earth. We should take time to thank God for His promise of continued life every time we see a rainbow. He didn’t put it there for Himself (because He is all-knowing) but rather as a sign to humanity of God’s love and provision and grace. This grace that saved Noah and his family is the same grace He extends to us today to save us from eternal death and torment. For you see, Ephesian 2:8-9 tells us that we are saved by grace through faith. The grace is a gift of God and not anything we can do to earn, merit, or buy our way into eternity with God.

Therefore, will you take time to consider the message of God’s grace contained in the rainbow the next time you see one? Will you take the time now to consider the beauty of the rainbow that actually serves as a reminder of great death and destruction because of man’s evil heart? The Bible tells us that the next great wave of God’s wrath coming upon the earth and humanity will not be water but through fire and brimstone, just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities of the Jordan Plain experienced. They were obliterated into dust!

You don’t have to be a part of the coming destruction. Jesus died on the cross to offer Himself as payment for your sins and mine. God raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand, the seat of power. God the Father made Jesus the Son of God ruler of overall the universe. He continues to extend His saving grace to us today. If you will believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead and confess with your mouth, “Jesus is LORD,” then you are saved from your sins and eternal torment in hell. Contrary to popular opinion and belief, your body will one day cease to function (one death), but you are an immortal being and will live in a body (an eternal body) and either “live” with God forever or “die” in hell forever. There is no end of hell’s torment, flames, and flesh-consuming worms.

Father, please let this message of hope and repentance reach some lost person today and in the future. May someone respond to this message through the prompting of Your Spirit and be saved. I may never see the person who reads of this witness of Jesus and Your great, life-saving grave, but, I will see them in the life to come as a member of Your chosen family. They will be a treasure laid up in heaven that moth, rust, and thief cannot destroy. I yearn that as many as possible find this posting and are moved by Your Spirit to make a decision for Jesus and make Him LORD and Savior today! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
