As for me, the LORD has led me on the journey… – Genesis 24:27b
Abraham sent his top servant to his family back in Ur to get his son, Isaac, a wife. Abe made this servant swear to never take a wife from the Canaanites for Isaac or to take Isaac back to their people. The servant went on his journey to Abe’s people and found Rebekah who would be Isaac’s wife. Once the LORD confirmed her as Isaac’s bride, the servant prayed and gave thanks to God and acknowledged that God had led him on his journey.
Oh that we all would stop and take time to acknowledge that God leads us on our journey in life! This life we live is truly a journey from death unto life and from earth to eternity with God. It has its ups and downs and is filled with troubles, trials, and temptations along the way, but God orders the steps of a good (righteous) person, directs the paths of those who acknowledge Him in all one’s ways, and is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our pat (journey).
One of the greatest stories depicting the journey that we walk in this life as a Christian was written long ago by John Bunyan titled Pilgrim’s Progress. I recommend that every believer read it to examine the path from being a sinner to a saint. Then once you’ve finished the piece, share it with an unsaved friend. It will show them the reality of life and what it takes to find Messiah and become a member of His family.
There is no easy path to heaven because Jesus said, “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it” (Matt. 7:13-14). He confirmed that this life is hard and the way to eternal life is difficult, but we can reach that celestial city of New Jerusalem by believing on the LORD Jesus Messiah, confess that He is LORD, and believe that God raised Him from the dead. He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. There is no other way to God except through Him.
Father, thank You for showing me the Way through Jesus to the narrow gate that leads to life and to You. Without Him I would have never been privileged to know how to find that gate and that way. Help me to point people in the same direction and find the narrow gate instead of them continuing on the broad and wide road to destruction. LORD, give me souls, many souls this year for the glory of Your kingdom. This journey is tough, and we need all the help we can get from You and other believers to walk it. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
