Disobedience (sin) separates us from God.

Scripture:
According to the number of the days in which you spied out the land, forty days, for each day you shall bear your guilt one year, namely forty years, and you shall know My rejection. Numbers 14:34

Observation:
God told Moses to select 12 leaders, one from each ancestral tribe, and have them reconnoiter the Promised Land. He sent out the 12, who returned after 40 days of surveying. When they returned, 10 of the 12 spoke an evil word of the land and caused the people to fear its inhabitants and refuse to enter the land. Because of the people’s unbelief and rebellion, God made them wander through the desert wilderness for 40 years, one year for each day the 12 were gone, until those over the age of 20, who’d rebelled, dropped dead in the desert. They’d never enter the Promised Land.

Application:
Many have said that sin separates us from God. From the beginning of time this has been true. When Adam sinned against God’s word, he separated himself from God and was banished from His presence without a sin offering. That sin offering would continue to be required through animal sacrifice until the day that Jesus would enter the scene and offer Himself as the Lamb of God slain from the foundation of the world.

However, the sin offering as payment for sin still remains. Those born today and yet to be born as well as those who have yet to accept the gift of eternal life through Jesus the Messiah, our LORD, are NOT exempt from the sin offering. Fortunately, we no longer have to kill animals as temporary payment for our sins. Jesus paid that price once for all! He is that sin offering that covers and pardons our sins and allows us to be redeemed by God and have that wondrous personal relationship with Him that even angels cannot have or enjoy!

Aren’t you glad that we can have real life with God through Jesus? I am! The Bible states that the payment for sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus. Without Him, you are separated from God and are rejected by God. However, if you desire to be in relationship with God as your heavenly Father, you can have that. Paul wrote that the one who calls on the name of the LORD (Jesus is LORD) and believes in one’s heart that God raised Jesus from the dead will be saved. Do you feel God’s Spirit wooing you to Him? Do you hear God’s Spirit telling you that life without Him means eternal separation from and rejection of God? Take that step of faith today. You will be saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus’ death and resurrection. He died and rose again that you might live.

Prayer:
Father, Jesus is the only Way I can be restored to fellowship with You. Without His death and resurrection, I’d be nothing but a hot dog waiting for a fire, an eternal fire where the hot dog would burn forever and be eaten by subterranean worms! Oh what a glorious thing it is to be a redeemed, loved child of the Most High God! I never want to be separated from You or Your love again. Sin has a funny way of doing that, but I am asking for Your Holy Spirit-power to live above sin out of my love for You! I will fail and mess up from time to time, but I know that I have an Advocate before You pleading my case through His blood offering. Nothing can snatch me out of Your hand or separate me from You, except me! However, I yield to You and will follow where You lead. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
