God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good? – Numbers 23:19
Balak, king of Moab, saw the huge congregation of Israel moving into his territory and feared they may try and do to his land what happened with Egypt. Thus, he sent for a seer, Balaam, to conjure up a curse against Israel, so that Moab could overcome them and destroy them or at least drive them away. God spoke to the seer and commanded that he bless Israel and not curse them because God had blessed Israel. He would not let anyone spoil His plan, including some little man named Balak.
The words of Balaam are so true….when God speaks, it happens. God IS NOT a man or son of a man. He is GOD, the LORD, the CREATOR, the MASTER OF THE UNIVERSE! He spoke creation into existence, and it was so. He promised salvation from sin and death to mankind in order to restore our relationship with Him, and He gave us Jesus as the payment for that redemption.
God has given us numerous promises in the Bible. The problem doesn’t lie with God, but us! God is faithful. His Word does what it was set out to do. It may not always happen when, where, how, or with whom we expect; nevertheless, it happens. We have to learn to trust in God to do what He says He will do. Why can we trust God to do what He said? Because every prophecy ever given to us from God has come true with some yet to pass. Also, we can do nothing to save ourselves. Salvation comes through none other than Jesus the Messiah. There is no other name given to us by which we must be saved. It is not by our power or might but by His Spirit.
If God made a promise to you, then it will come to pass (if you wait upon Him and do what He told you to do). If you get antsy and try to force the promise to happen, you will only cause yourself grief and great sorrow (See Abram and Sarai in the birth of a promised child). More times than not people get anxious waiting upon God and want to do something rather than trust in Him. Thus, they go and give birth to an Ishmael (a wild man and troubler for all) instead of waiting on the promise of Isaac.
If you do nothing else, take the words of Balaam (a sinner who heard from God) and believe them. He spoke the truth regarding God. God cannot lie. God does not have to repent. He does what He says. He speaks and will make good on it. Israel saw the blessing first hand despite the best efforts of their enemy to curse them and overpower them.
Father, I’m facing a looming battle with the forces of darkness in my place of employment. The foul mood and bitter resentment that has ruled there has had control for far too long. I am banding together with another disciple there and seeking Your power and authority to change not only the spiritual climate and tempo but for Your glory to be revealed there and have the lost become found and fellow members of Your kingdom and family. I understand Satan has power to operate in this world because of Adam; however, the earth and the fullness thereof are Yours! You still hold title deed to the earth. We ask for Your intervention in bringing blessing to this place. The Balaams of the world have cursed this place for too long, but I stand as light and salt in this dark place to dispel the evil and release Your love and compassion and grace to this place. May Your will be done, not mine. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
