The enemy gets mad when you do the work of God.

But when Sanballat, Tobiah, the Arabs, the Ammonites and the people of Ashdod heard that the repairs to Jerusalem’s walls had gone ahead and that the gaps were being closed, they were very angry. – Nehemiah 4:7

When the enemies of Israel heard that the walls of Jerusalem were being rebuilt, they banded together to cause trouble for those building the walls and to even destroy it if necessary. They tried to frustrate the workers and get an injunction against them to prevent its reconstruction, but God stepped in and overrode the enemy’s best efforts. Despite the enemy’s anger over the situation, the people continued to build the wall until it was done.

What roadblocks has the enemy set out in front of you? Has he tried to wreck the work of God that you are doing? Has he sent people into your life to try and thwart your efforts? The bottom line is that if God is for us, who can be against us? The devil may try to derail whatever project you’re working on, but God will see to completion the good work he has started in you. Let us continue the work and not stop until it’s done. Let’s be like Paul and press toward the mark of the high calling of God, laying aside everything that hinders us, forgetting those things which are passed, and finish the race strong.

Father, the devil has tried for so long to get me to quit the race or even just take an unnecessary respite from the work you’ve given to me. I know there are times when a sabbath is needed because you instituted the need for rest. Even you rested from your work. Thus, I need to take breaks from my work. However, when the devil tries to kill an entire project or prevent a move of your Spirit, I need to press on even harder than before. Help me to stay focused and on task of doing the job of spreading your Good News. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
