This is what the Sovereign Lord says: The people of Israel will again live in their own land, the land I gave my servant Jacob. For I will gather them from the distant lands where I have scattered them. I will reveal to the nations of the world my holiness among my people. – Ezekiel 28:25
Among the many prophecies that God gave Ezekiel about the coming judgment on the surrounding nations of Israel for their mistreatment of Israel and their sins in general, God spoke about the promise he made with the Jews about the land of Canaan being the ancestral homeland of Israel and their future homeland as well. God promised long ago that Israel would dwell in this land. Even though he exiled both nations to Assyria and Babylonia, he promised to gather them from the nations among which they were scattered and bring them home again.
As I read the words of God and his promise to return his people to their promised homeland, I thought about the history of the Jews and how the nation of Israel was reconstituted in one day on May 14, 1948, and given back to the Jews. Many Arab nations and other Gentile nations opposed this move and tried desperately through combat to prevent the Jews from reoccupying their homeland. However, God stepped in and miraculously prevailed once more on behalf of his chosen people to ensure that their promise came true. IF the LORD of heaven’s armies cares enough to fulfill a promise such as this one, he must also be a faithful God to fulfill all his promises.
He told Moses a long time ago that he is the FAITHFUL God. HE IS FAITHFUL! He promised to return the Jews to their homeland and has done so more than once including the return of the exiles from Babylon as well as the much later reforming of Israel as a sovereign nation. He also promised Abraham long before Moses ever came around that Israel would be the nation through whom all the nations of the world would be blessed. That promise came true through the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross. Now, people of all nations are able to become part of God’s family. For it is through Jesus only that anyone of any nation or race can come to God the Father. Oh how faithful and wonderful our Father is!
Father, as I have read and witnessed the fulfillment of even one of your promises in my lifetime, I am amazed at how true to your word you are. You are truth, just as Jesus said. He is the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE! You’ve always honored your word and seen to its fulfillment. Never has anything you’ve said ever not come true! Because of this fact alone I am humbled by your faithfulness to humanity, who doesn’t deserve so much as anything but eternal death for our rebellion against you. However, in your great love for us, you made a way for us to be redeemed just as you promised so long ago in the Garden of Eden when you prophesied about Jesus crushing the head of satan. Thank YOU! You are so awesome! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
