And the Lord will be king over all the earth. On that day there will be one Lord—his name alone will be worshiped. – Zechariah 14:9
Zechariah prophesied of the LORD’s coming in the future when he will set up his kingdom here on the earth. The time of Jesus’ reign as the heir of David upon the throne of David will begin. The prophet described in some detail what will transpire during that time. He even mentioned how Jesus will stand on the Mount of Olives, which will split into two directions to allow the people of Israel to escape the torture of a future king, who will destroy a good portion of the nation. This event is detailed in the book of Revelation.
The application of this verse to me today is just one of knowing that one day in the future the LORD will establish his kingdom on earth just as he prophesied through the prophets and apostles thousands of years ago. The NT tells us that Jesus is our blessed hope. Our hope lies in the fact that the faithful God will do as he said. There will come a day when he comes to literally rule the nations of the earth, as the heir of David. His rule will be absolute. It is refreshing to know that our God has control of not only today but tomorrow as well!
Father, I just want to thank you for the reassuring thought that you have everything in your hand. There is nothing that escapes your sight or attention. You know all that will happen in the future. Because you have it all tidied up in your hand, I can rest in the fact that the future pans out as you dictate. I don’t have to worry about what happens in the world system or the economy of the world or anything else in this world. You have it all mapped out. I can rely on you to provide for me and sustain me until the day you gather unto yourself. You are our blessed hope. That alone gives me reason to shout! I love you!! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
