Who can refuse to proclaim the message of God?

Scripture:
The Sovereign Lord has spoken— so who can refuse to proclaim his message? – Amos 3:8b

Observation:
A young shepherd from among the Judeans received a message from God through visions. God instructed him to share this message to the affected nation surrounding Israel, which were mentioned in the message. The shepherd turned prophet spoke to the people and told them that the Lion has roared! Who would not be frightened? Then he went on to say that the Sovereign LORD has spoken, and who could refuse to preach his message? Ezekiel had received a similar message of being sure to share the word of God to his people, so that they could turn from their evil ways and live.

Application:
There are numerous preachers and teachers in the world, with all supposedly speaking the message of God. When we get down to the bottom line, there is really only one message from God – And then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone. – Mark 16:15  Later Jesus told his disciples prior to his ascension, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age. – Matthew 28:18-20

Although Jesus spoke directly to the apostles on this occasion (the issuance of the Great Commission), he really spoke to all believers that would come after them. The one, true message of God is for us to proclaim (preach) the Good News (gospel) to all people everywhere. Why? Because God doesn’t delight in the death of the wicked. He desires for all to come to repentance, and he made a way for that to happen through the blood sacrifice of Jesus. Then upon his resurrection, Jesus opened the doorway to the holiest of holies into God’s throne room for all of his children. The veil of separation came down for eternity, and the gift of eternal life from God through Jesus was made available to all who would believe on him and confess, Jesus is LORD!

Because God has spoken this message, as the prophet spoke, who then, among God’s children, would dare not deliver this message to all people everywhere? It is the responsibility of all believers/disciples of Jesus to proclaim this greatest message of truth! It’s as Paul noted, how can people call on God whom they’ve never heard of? How can they hear if the message isn’t proclaimed? How can the message be proclaimed if no one is sent?

Thus, let us all be like Paul and have a deep urgency to tell everyone about the Good News of Jesus’ salvation! And like the prophet who said that it’s like a fire shut up in his bones and can’t help but declare the word of the LORD! God wants his message declared across the globe. We had best take it to heart and be about his business. For the day will come when He will ask us what we did with the gift of life he gave us? He will ask us if we shared his grace with others, as he did with us? He will ask us if we proclaimed his truth? There is a reckoning coming with the LORD for those who are meant to declare his truth, which is all of us!

Prayer:
Father, I’ve been remiss in not doing the very thing, which I’ve written in the above piece. My mouth has been tethered like a horse with a bridle in its mouth! Well, I’m no longer going to allow anything to silence me from proclaiming the truth of your word. You said to preach the gospel of Jesus with all people, make disciples of the converts, and teach them all you’ve commanded. Most of your children fail to realize that they ALL are preachers! It’s not just the gifting of the five-fold ministry. Help me, please, to have the courage and fortitude to open my mouth with physical utterance of the Good News! There are so many people in this world that need to hear the truth of your love. They need the message preached, and the preachers need sent! Help me to be one who goes and shows the way to life through Jesus! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
