So the man started off to visit the Ten Towns[f] of that region and began to proclaim the great things Jesus had done for him; and everyone was amazed at what he told them. – Mark 5:20
Jesus had come to the area known as the Decapolis. There was a man there who’d been possessed by a legion of demons and couldn’t be restrained by ordinary means: chains, ropes and the like. When he saw Jesus, he came before him and had the demons cry out and ask to be released into a herd of pigs rather than be cast into oblivion. When Jesus had set the man free, he wanted to follow Jesus. However, Jesus told him to go home and share with his family and all around him the good things God had done for him. The man did just so, and many people were amazed at his testimony.
John wrote in Revelation that those who will suffer in the future for the kingdom of God will have overcome the enemy by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony. The demoniac of Gennesaret did just that. He overcame the legion of demons in him by the (future shedding) blood of the Lamb and the word of his testimony.
Jesus commanded us, all, to declare/proclaim the Good News of his resurrection and saving grace to all people everywhere. We are all ministers of the Good News. Why? Because we, all, have a testimony about the good that Jesus did for us! He saved us from the fate of the Legion. He gave us mercy and grace that we didn’t deserve. We deserve to die in the sulfur-burning flames of hell, but He loved us enough to purchase us back from such a fate.
Isn’t this miracle enough for you to get excited and want to go tell others about it, as did the former demoniac? He ran back to his towns of the Decapolis and gladly shared how God had set him free and given him a new life! How dare we sit back on our religious laurels and think that we don’t have to share this life-giving, life-saving, Good News!! Who do we think we are? We, all, are charged to do as the freed soul from Decapolis! GO AND SHARE THE GOOD NEWS OF WHAT JESUS DID FOR YOU! Are you with me?
Father, I pray that I meet someone today, whom you have appointed to hear the Good News of Jesus through me. I don’t want to go one day without meeting and talking to someone about how you changed my life through your grace by faith. They have the same need for Life through Jesus, as I do. So who am I to not share what you’ve done for me and others? Build up a most holy fire within me that prevents me from being silent about your love and mercy. Let it be like a fire enclosed within my bones! Set my spirit like a backbone of steel with eyes of flint! I want to be sent in order to share about you, God, so others can come to you as well. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
