The love of the faithful God.

Scripture:
Understand, therefore, that the Lord your God is indeed God. He is the faithful God who keeps his covenant for a thousand generations and lavishes his unfailing love on those who love him and obey his commands. – Deuteronomy 7:9

Observation:
Moses addressed the Hebrew nation as they prepared themselves to cross over the Jordan River and take possession of Canaan, which God had promised to the patriarchs. In his address, Moses told the people what they were to do to the foreign nations that God would hand over to them – crush them completely and wipe them out. However, Moses told them that God loved them and would love them for a thousand generations if they obeyed his commands.

Application:
Do you realize that in the opening account of the book of Matthew that the genealogy of Jesus alone covered the time from Abraham to Jesus, and that there were only a recorded 42 generations? There may have been more than that during that time span, but that time span covered more than 1,800 years! There have been only about 6,000 years of human existence since Adam. The human mind can’t fathom the depth of 1,000 generations! The Love of God is limitless and timeless. He loved us from the foundation of the world because Jesus is the Lamb of God that was slain from the foundation of the world and because God loved the world that he gave his only Son for us!! He kept his word and redeemed us from a demon’s fate once we have received his life-giving love gift through the blood of Jesus and his resurrection! Have you received this gift of eternal life and exchanged it for the wages of sin – death?!? Come the river and drink from the cup of the One who pours living water and thirst no more and live forever more!

Prayer:
Father, thank you for loving us when no one else would. You said that real love is to lay down one’s life for his friends. You call us friend and laid down your life for us. Now there is no greater love than what you have for us. Help us to reciprocate that love to you and to others around us. As you are faithful in keeping your word, help me to be likewise. I want to be known as a faithful man of God who maintains his integrity and lavishes the love of God on others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
