For we know how dearly God loves us because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. – Romans 5:5b
Paul wrote to the Roman church about the difference between faith and works. He explained to them that the gift of life we can enjoy in Christ resulted not in people working for it but from God’s love for us. The apostle went on to further explain in his piece that anyone can know how much God dearly loves people because he’s given them the Holy Spirit to fill the hearts of believers with his love.
Do you know how dearly God loves you? Do you know the joy of being the temple of God’s Holy Spirit? Jesus promised us and all believers upon his ascension to heaven that God the Father would send Another to help us along the journey of life. That Other is none other than God the Holy Spirit. He lives and dwells in the hearts of all people, who have accepted God’s gift of eternal life through Jesus the Messiah.
The Bible tells us that we can love because God first loved us. It is vital that we live life with the love of God consuming us. We can only have the love of God in us because of the Holy Spirit. Allow him to dwell in your heart, fill it with God’s love, and then use you to share the love of God with others. This reason is why we are here on the earth – to love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength and to love our neighbors as ourselves. Be filled with God’s love and then love!
Father, thank you for being the loving, doting Father you are. You loved us enough to die for us and come back to life in order to save us from our sins. You loved us while we were yet sinners. You give us your Spirit that we may have your love in us. You are love. What more can be said about your love than it is there for the taking. Help me, Sir, to share that love with everyone. I was in desperate need of your love, and you gave it to me because someone listened to you and shared the Good News of Jesus with me. Fill my heart with your Spirit and allow him to fill me with your love, so that I can love all, as you do. Thank you, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
