Do you ever feel like you’re the only one?

Scripture:
Yet I will preserve 7,000 others in Israel who have never bowed down to Baal or kissed him! – 1 Kings 19:18

Observation:
Elijah fled from Samaria for fear of being killed by Jezebel. While he stayed in the mountain caves, the Lord called out to the prophet and asked him what he was doing in the cave? Twice Elijah replied that he was the only one left in all of Israel who was faithful to God. The Lord responded that he had reserved 7,000 people in Israel, who had not bowed to worship baal. He then told the prophet to get and get moving and do what God had told him.

Application:
There are a certain number of people in the world that belong to the Lord. We don’t know who they all are, but God does. He has known it since the beginning of time. There are many who claim to be children of the living God but are really children of the devil. Sometimes we can get to the point where it seems like we may be the only person serving God, but today, he reassures us we are not alone. He has many who are loyal to him and have not bowed down to the ways of this world. Let us not be weary in well doing. Instead may we join our hearts with those that are of the house of God and do the work he’s set before us: proclaiming the good news of Jesus to the lost and seeing them go out and do likewise.

Prayer:
Father, you, who are worthy to be praised, worthy of all glory, honor, and power, are the great and powerful LORD God Almighty! I bow before you today and worship you. I sit here in awe of your mighty power and grace. I don’t deserve live or have your blessing, but you chose me for yourself and choose to do with me as you please. May you open my eyes to see all of those around me that are part of the family of God and those who are yet to become part of that great assembly. Help me to stay humble before you and walk in humility before you. Teach me to do justice and to love mercy. Your will be done, not mine. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
