Accepted in our place.

Scripture: Lay your hand on the animal’s head, and the Lord will accept its death in your place to purify you, making you right with him.

Observation: The beginning of the book of Leviticus begins with gods instructions on how to prepare sacrifices for the various offerings. Contained within the instructions for preparing a burnt offering, God tells us that the person offering the sacrifice was to place once hands on the head of the animal. In so doing a person’s sins were transferred to the animal or temporary atonement of the person sins.

Application: Jesus was our permanent sacrifice for sin. In essence our sins symbolically placed our hands on the head of Jesus, as he hung on the cross being sacrificed as the Lamb of God. There is no payment/remission of sins without the shedding of blood. Jesus shed his sinless blood to pay for the sins of mankind. In so doing, his death was accepted by God in our place to purify us and make us right with Him. We have to accept this work of the cross by grace through faith in God. We can do nothing to wipe out our sins because we were not without spot, blemish, or wrinkle, as was Jesus who knew no sin and never sinned while here on earth. Let us praise God for the loved he showed us through the sacrifice of his one and only Son, Jesus. For sin’s price is death, but God’s gift is eternal life through Jesus.

Prayer: Father, thank you for loving me so much that Jesus went to the cross as my one-time for all time sacrifice for sin. He took my place, so I could be purified (made holy) in your sight and made right with you, or to enjoy a restored relationship with you that my sins prohibited. I am forever indebted to you for your grace and mercy. I love you. Thank you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
