Arise like the Son!

…may those who love you rise like the sun in all its power! – Judges 5:31

Barak received word from the prophet, Deborah, to arise and attack the enemy of Israel and to secure peace for their people. The leader refused to go into battle without the prophet going with him. She assisted the troops by going with them, but the honor went to her instead of the male leaders of the day, which was uncommon in practice. After the victory over their Ammonite oppressors, Deborah crafted a song of victory in which she concluded with the words above,  may those who love you rise like the sun in all its power!

Look closely at the words of the prophet. She says to God that may those who love Him rise like the sun in all its power. The sun does have great physical power in that it gives off light and heat. It’s temperature is hot enough to melt most everything on earth. If we were any closer to it, we’d burn up and any further away we would freeze. There is power in the sun.

However, there is greater power in the Son of God, Jesus. He is the One who created the sun and gave it its power. All things were created in Him, through Him, and for Him including us! We exist for the very reason of giving God glory. It is all about him! He created humanity to bring him glory and honor. The scriptures state, You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created all thingsand they exist because you created what you pleased [emphasis added].

Let us give glory and praise to the King of kings and Lord of lords, Jesus! He arose from the dead to give life to all who will come to Him. Just as he arose to bring life, let us, his disciples, arise to bring life to a lost and dying world. Let us arise in power of the Holy Spirit to share the good news that there is hope, a blessed hope in Jesus! Let us arise and make disciples of those to whom we share His truth. Let us arise and not be ashamed of the Good News of Jesus, for it is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile. (Romans 1:16) Will you arise with me to declare the great works of God to the world as David cried out so many centuries before!

Father, thank you for loving me. Thank you for sending your Son, Jesus, to the earth to bring life to the lost. He arose from the dead by the power of your Spirit. He ascended into the heavens to sit at your right hand, the seat of power and honor. Allow me to rise up as a voice of one in the wilderness crying out to declare that the kingdom of heaven is at hand and for people to repent and be saved, to be baptized in water, and to be baptized with the Holy Spirit and fire. Allow the power of your Spirit to rise within me like the sun rises over the horizon daily to give off its warmth and light. Let me arise in power to give off Your light and warmth to a dying world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
