My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, 5 so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.– 1 Corinthians 2:4-5
Paul, in the opening of his 2nd letter (although titled the first because of its order in the Bible) to the church in Corinth, speaks to them about the fact that they have all the spiritual gifts of the Spirit in practice within their congregation. However, they were still acting like they were prior to salvation. They argued amongst themselves, quarreled, and did various other acts that divided them not unified them. Therefore, Paul tried to convince them of their need for unity of the brethren in the Holy Spirit. He told them that when he came to speak to them that he didn’t come with human logic or eloquent speech but rather in a demonstration of power, Holy Spirit power to ensure that their faith didn’t rest on human wisdom but that of God.
Where are the men and women of Jehovah, who in Christ through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, speak to world leaders, rebuke terrorists, stand up to oppression, rebuff discrimination, perform fantastic miracles with but a word from the Holy Spirit? Where are those who believe? Where are those who signs and wonders are supposed to follow? They are out there, but their numbers are way too few!
We, as disciples of and believers in Christ, should be doing these greater works daily. Yes, we are to follow the leading and promptings of the Spirit, but we sit by idly and silently way too much! Is it any wonder that in these last days that a 12-week series on the Acts of the Holy Spirit is being broadcast on national TV in America! We are supposed to be the great satan, the great immoral cesspool of the world because we’ve abandoned the God, Jehovah, of our forefathers? Well, I say hogwash! We are still living in a nation where we have freedom to serve Jehovah openly. The day fast approaches when we won’t be able to do so, but until then and even beyond, we should be seeing things like what Peter did…tell an invalid to stand in the name of Jesus (Yashua) and watch him get up and walk! Not stumble or teeter until he could take a step but get up, walk, and jump immediately! Yes, that happened. Jehovah healed his legs and gave them strength to walk and jump even though he’d never walked in his entire life!
Where are the men who will stand up to leaders like President Barak Hussein Obama and declare to him that America is dying? That he’s taking America down a slippery slope by rejecting Israel but more importantly rejecting Jehovah? I will be one of those who will do so simply because Jehovah has given me that mission. I’m not afraid to tell Pres. Obama, Hon. John Boehner, or Hon. Mitch McConnell that they are going in the wrong direction, supporting actions that violate God’s Law, and will not only answer to him but pay a hefty price for leading our nation into oblivion and moral decay and lawlessness. Who will join me in standing up for what’s right in God’s eyes? Who will brave the threats and ridicule with me? Who will be bold and brave enough to make a stand for God in these last days to see lives changed and turned to God? NOT with human words and logic but a demonstration of power in and through the Holy Spirit? Will you join me?
Father, thank you for the gift of the Holy Spirit through Jesus. You promised, and he delivered. Now I am able to do the impossible for your kingdom by the same power that raised Jesus from the dead. I am not here to serve myself or my agenda, but I am here to serve you and see your mission completed in the earth. I ask one thing of your Spirit, empower me to do the Father’s will not mine. Please let me do so in the way you see best. Thank you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
