Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. – Ephesians 4:1
Paul writes in the middle of his letter that we should live a life worthy of the calling God has given us, as his chosen people. Each person called of God has a mission to do according to Paul. That mission is to live a humble life with all gentleness and to be at peace with all people and to be in unity with all of God’s children.
What has God called you to do? You don’t know? Read Matthew 28:18-20. Jesus said, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations,[a] baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
And also read Acts 1:8. Here Jesus said, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
We are to proclaim the truth of the Good News to all people that God raised Jesus from the dead to save all people who will accept his gift of eternal life through JESUS and JESUS alone from an eternity in demon’s hell. Why? God loves the world enough that he gave Jesus to be their payment of sin they could never repay. We are then to baptize those who convert and follow Jesus in the name of God the Father, God the Son – Jesus, and God the Holy Spirit. Furthermore, we are to make these converts into disciples by teaching them all that Jesus taught the apostles.
The way we need to this is in the power of God the Holy Spirit. He empowers us to not only witness to people but TO BE a witness of Jesus to the world around us! We may not have been around in Jesus’ day watching him perform miracles and teaching, but we know that he saved us, changed us, and can do the same for others. That is our witness of his continuing power and love! We are to do the Great Commission. It is for every believer to preach the gospel to all people not just the ecclesiastical gifts of apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers because they are to train the body of Christ to do all the good works of God including being and doing witnessing. Every person adopted into God’s family is a preacher!
Father, thank you for loving me. Thank you for the Holy Spirit. Please continue to fill me daily with your love and an outpouring of the HOly Spirit and his power to enable me to witness with others and to be that witness as a living example of your grace and mercy. It takes both words and actions to demonstrate the heart of the Great Commission. May many people come to you, be adopted into our family, and have an intimate, personal relationship with you through and because of the example they see in me, not because I’m special but to give you glory and bring you honor! Your will be done, not mine. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
