Doing things the right way, as God dictates.

It was because you, the Levites, did not bring it up the first time that the Lord our God broke out in anger against us. We did not inquire of him about how to do it in the prescribed way.” – 1 Chronicles 15:13

David in his zeal for God wanted to bring the Ark of God back to Jerusalem and have it back among the people, The Ark had not been brought back since the days of Saul. The first time David tried to bring the Ark into the city, a man died for touching it, which was forbidden by God except for the purified priests carrying it on poles. The next time they attempted to bring it into the city, they followed the prescribed method as written in the Law of Moses. They learned to do it the right way or not at all.

Have you ever tried to do something without reading the instructions? Most men are accused or at least alleged at doing this when trying to assemble things; well, that seems to be the case with King David here. If we are all honest, we would admit that we have tried to do things on our own without reading the instruction manual.

The point is that there is only one instruction manual and has many names but is still one book:

  • Bible
  • Word of God
  • Scripture
  • Good Book

God had men about 40 men over a 1,400 year period write out in detail the greatest guide for humanity. It contains all the answers to issues of life and how to respond to issues of life accordingly. The Bible is more than just a collection of stories, histories, poems, and sayings. It is the very lifeline of the believer that points us to Jesus and tells us and shows us how to live a life worthy of the calling God has given us.

To live contrary to the teachings of this word is to find oneself in peril. Jesus even told us that those that love him will keep his commandments. Where are those commandments kept? Where else than in the written word of God! Read the Bible and learn how to deal with life and how to succeed at life. There is more to life than money and fame and things. There is the satisfaction of knowing that one will spend eternity with God because they knew the one who wrote the instruction manual and followed what he said in it. It is not obeying the instructions that gets one into eternity but having a personal relationship with the author of the manual.

Do not trust in your own wisdom and think that doing things your way will earn you a spot in heaven or that doing things opposite of what God says will get you far, for you are deceived. Jesus made it clear that there is only one way to the Father and that is through him because he is the way, the truth, and the life. There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved. JESUS and JESUS alone can save us. It is by his plan that it all works, not ours.

Father, thank you for showing the truth of your word. It is the only book that has life contained in it because it points us to Jesus and teaches us how to live in covenant relationship with you. Your wisdom pours out of the Bible when we seek you and listen to your Spirit teach us the truth of the scriptures and how they apply to our everyday lives. Thank you for loving us enough to share that mercy and grace with us when we do not deserve it. Without your Word, there would be no salvation for anyone. I trust in you and believe in your word. May it bring life to me through its application. I yield myself to you and your Word. Your will be done, not mine. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
