With the Holy Spirit’s power and conviction.

Our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction. – 1 Thessalonians 1:5

Paul writes in this letter to the Thessalonians that he knows that they are God’s children because the Good News came to them through the apostles with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction. There is no denying their acceptance of the message of Jesus’ saving grace.

Brothers and sisters we need to ensure that (1) we are sharing the Good News of Christ with others and (2) that when we do, we are doing so in the power of the Holy Spirit, as he delivers deep conviction of the sin in people. It is not our position or job to try to convict people with fancy or eloquent speech. It is the function of the Holy Spirit to do the convicting of sin because he is God the Holy Spirit. We are merely to be the bearers of the message that brings people to the point where the conviction fo the Spirit brings them to the point where they can meet and find the God they need and desire.

Father, thank you for making us your vessels used to deliver the message of the Good News. We are just that messengers sharing your message of hope and love with a world full of darkness and in need of your grace. Help me to be bold and strong in my sharing of the Good News and to be a true witness of Jesus in this wicked day. I need your power God the Holy Spirit to be able to do any of this work. Your will be done, not mine. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
