In your love, you were patient with them for many years. You sent your Spirit, who warned them through the prophets. But still they wouldn’t listen! So once again you allowed the peoples of the land to conquer them….Every time you punished us you were being just. We have sinned greatly, and you gave us only what we deserved. – Nehemiah 9:30, 33
When the Jews returned to Judah, they rebuilt the walls of the city, hung new gates to the city, and rebuilt the temple of God. Their enemies tried to stop them from accomplishing their mission, but they failed. God favored the people with the kings of Babylonia to allow them to do all God planned for his people. However, over the centuries, the Israelis continued to sin against God and His Word, which led to their exile and eventual return. The priests of this day confessed the sins of Israel and acknowledged that the punishments meted out by God on Israel were just and exact.
Ezra points out in his prayer that God does all in His love for humanity. He admits that God is patient with humanity and even send his Holy Spirit to teach and guide the people and warn them to return to God when they stray away. The problem is that they did what they wanted rather than listen to the prophets of God and suffered the consequences.
The New Testament tells us that we are to despise the chastisement of the Lord because as a heavenly Father he corrects us because he loves us, not because he hates us! The punishment experienced by Israel was for their good not their destruction. Had they listened to God’s messengers and did what they were told to do, they would not have lost the promised land and been exiled. Thus, God’s judgments on Israel and Judah were true, exact, and well deserved.
America, we have the same messages being told to us! Our prophets, including me, have told the people to wake up and smell the spiritual coffee brewing on the stove of correction. If we don’t heed God’s warnings from 9-11 to the earthquake in DC to market collapses to loss of life from attacks by our enemies, God will turn us over to our enemies on a grand scale compared to the recent, tragic loss of four marines and a sailor! The day fast approaches that God WILL turn us over to our enemies for our destruction, although he will save the remnant of his people living among us! The word from the Spirit of God to America is, “REPENT OR PERISH!” The choice is ours as a nation to make or to refuse. What say you, America? Repent?!? Or, Perish?!? If we refuse, we will get what we deserve.
We lost in Korea, Viet Nam, Iraq and Afghanistan. We have pounded the enemy into the ground, but what were the outcomes of these years of conflict? North Korea is still communist. Viet Nam is still communist. The Middle East is still under islamic control. The next step is the enemy penetrating and overwhelming America on US soil.
Father, I have prayed and confessed the sins of my nation, but it takes the leadership of the nation to do the same. You’ve told me already that they will utterly refuse to bow before you and lead this nation in repentance. It is up to your people called by your name to humble themselves, pray, seek your face, turn from their sin, then you will hear our prayers and forgive our nation’s sins and heal our land. Until then, there is no hope for America to return to you and be saved. Our hope lies with your people, the disciples of Jesus, to begin interceding for our nation on behalf of all the sinners, who will refuse you. I pray that you stay your judgment and allow a great awakening once more. However, if your will is for judgment to bring it about, so be it. Your will be done, not ours. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
