I don’t withdraw from his lips’ command; I treasure his words more than my daily food.– Job 23:12
Job entered into his third discussion with his friends about his plight. They one by one continued to hammer on Job and make him out to be a bandit and criminal in the matters of living righteously. Job continued to wonder where G-d was to be found in order that he might make his case before Him. One thing noted by Job was that even though he’d endured this suffering he was still among the living. He also stated that he followed G-d’s Word and treasured it more than food.
While living on earth, Yeshua told the apostles that His food was doing the will of the Father. Sure, Yeshua if the bread of life and living water who satisfies our hunger and thirst for righteousness, but He is the real manna from heaven. His Word is what drives us and keeps us alive, for He is the Word.
If we don’t keep His commandments, He tells us that we don’t really love Him. For the apostle penned the words, “if you love me, keep my commandments.” What commandments did Yeshua leave for us? He said that all of Torah and the prophets can be summed in these: Love the L-rd your G-d with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself.
The apostles Paul and James confirmed this teaching. Paul wrote that Torah could be summed up in loving our neighbors as ourselves. James wrote that we should fulfill the royal law of love, to love your neighbor as yourself. When we truly love the Father, we want to love others as we love ourselves. It’s a matter of preferring others before oneself. We cannot be in love with the Father if we cannot love our neighbors.
Do you realize that if we all loved each other in preferential, sacrificial love as Yeshua did, there would be no need for human laws! There would be no need for prisons and jails. There would be no need for police officers and judges and magistrates! There would only be love expressed for one another that would lead to peace among all peoples! There would be no killing, murder, death, stealing, lying, envying, cheating, or any other sin! There would only be love! This is the result of all people doing what G-d commands!
We need to make it our purpose to honor the Father in all we think, say, and do regardless of the people around us. When we do what the Father commands and treasure his Word more than food, we find ourselves pleasing the Father by living our lives by faith and not by our senses. Do the work G-d has given you to do in this lifetime and enjoy the bounty of the Living Water and Bread of Life, who is Yeshua HaMashiach!
Father, thank you for showing me that connection between Job and Yeshua. Thank you for making clear the purpose of Yeshua’s words that his food is doing your will. When we love others as ourselves and love you with all we are, we are doing your will and expanding the kingdom of heaven on earth. Thank you for loving me and teaching me how to love. I owe all that I am to you. Please continue to refine me more and more into your likeness. May I come to the point where I want nothing more than to do what you’ve given me to do here on earth, not out of coercion or obligation, but out of my genuine love for you! May your will be done, not mine. In the name of Yeshua, Amen.
