The Lion of Judah won the victory!

Scripture:
Revelation 5:5 “But one of the twenty-four elders said to me, ‘Stop weeping! Look, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the heir to David’s throne, has won the victory. He is worthy to open the scroll and its seven seals.’”

Observation:
John has now been transported into heaven in the Spirit in a vision. He witnesses events in heaven that will one day transpire as the judgment of God pours out on humanity during the days of great tribulation. John sees God seated on the throne of heaven holding a scroll that unleashes the events to take place. An angel takes the scroll searching for one worthy to open it, but none are found. Then an elder tells John to behold the Lion of Judah and heir to David’s throne, who is worthy. He is worthy because he has won the victory!

Application:
What victory had Jesus one making him worthy to open the scroll? He won the victory over death and the grave that we read about in 1:18 of this book. Because Jesus overcame death and the grave, He could and will open the scroll. He releases the events that must occur in the future to bring about judgment upon the sins of man for his rebellion, those whose names are not written in the Lamb’s book of life.

Are you not ecstatic about the fact there is One in heaven who is worthy? The Bible says that God is worthy to receive glory, honor and power in 4:11. Jesus, the Son of God, is worthy to do what no other can do! There is none like him! He gave his life up for us that we may escape the death of eternal separation from God and miss the wrath of God that is coming upon the world one day!!

Let us bow before him now here on the earth in this life and give him glory and honor and recognize his power as do the 24 elders and the four beasts of heaven when they lay their crowns at his feet and proclaim, “You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased” (4:11) and as the four beasts do continually, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty—the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come” (4:8). He, Jesus, is the only One worthy of our praise!

Prayer:
Father, oh how we humble ourselves before you today and recognize the majesty of your name alone. You are worthy of glory, honor, power, and praise. You don’t share your glory with another. Humbly we bow before your Imminence and cry, “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD God, the Almighty!” Thank you for being worthy to do what no other could do. Without you we are doomed for hell and eternal torment via separation from God. You truly are worthy, O LORD! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
